Seals are available in a variety of grades, meaning different film thicknesses and quantities. These results ensure you have the right holding power and tensile strength based on multiple variables, including cabinet size, weight and production/transportation environment. The addition of any of these factors, so does the grade of the tape. Typically, lower grade sealing tapes offer thinner pads and lower levels of adhesive, making them ideal for lightweight seals. Higher grade tapes have thicker pads and adhesive layer construction, making them useful for heavy duty or high security seals.
The size and grade of silicone rubber sealing strips are primarily determined by the following factors:
Thickness
Under the same compression load, the same type of media pressure, the leakage rate decreases with the increase of the thickness of the sealing strip. This is because under the same axial load, the thicker the pad has a greater compression resilience, the more sensitive the storage thicker the sealing strip is than the thinner one because in the initial sealing condition, the relative separation between the sealing surface and the media pressure on the sealing strip surface has been reached, thus, the leakage rate decreases. But it cannot be said that the thicker the sealing strip, the better the sealing performance. This is because the thickness of the sealing strip establishes the initial sealing condition. It is a compression stress state. Due to the influence of the side surface friction of the gasket surface, the material has a larger deformation resistance, and the gasket ring is less affected by the end of the small deformation resistance.
Width
Within a certain range, with the increase of the gasket width, the leakage rate is linearly decreasing. This is because the leakage resistance and leakage channel length (proportional to the gasket width) are proportional to the effective width of the gasket medium. But it cannot be said that the wider the gasket, the better, because the wider the sealing strip, the larger the surface area of the sealing strip, so that under the same compressive stress, the bolt force of the wide sealing strip is much greater than that of the narrow sealing strip.
